Just in case it matters, I’m a 39 year old, married, mother of two. My husband and I are celebrating 20 years together this June (2015). My oldest child just finished her first year of college, and my youngest is ready for his senior year of high school, then he’ll be off to the military next summer. In less than 12 months, there will be no children left in our house. Now that I’ve acknowledged that in writing, you’ll have to excuse me for a moment while I go hide in the closet and cry…
Okay, now that my temporary nervous breakdown over, let me tell you why you want ME editing your book.
Reason #1 –
My hobby is reading. Period. I don’t really have any other hobbies unless you count taking care of the two (seemingly helpless) men in my house, and spoiling our dogs. Occasionally, I go with my husband on his weekend road trips. He shoots competitive sporting clays and sometimes makes appearances at BBQ competitions to help promote Yoder Smokers (backyard and competition grade grills). But even when I do go with him, I usually spend a good portion of that time in the hotel room reading. I read in the car (not when I’m driving, of course). I read in waiting rooms at doctor’s offices. I read while I’m donating plasma. I read on my lunch break at work. I read on the weekends. I read after I get home from work. I read when I get in bed at night before I go to sleep.
I. Love. To. Read.
Reason #2 –
It’s not just reading that I care about. I’m of the opinion that you have to be able to see the forest through the trees. Meaning: If I can’t SEE the story because of the grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and typographical errors, I can’t READ the story. Literally cannot. These types of errors are distracting, and sometimes even fatal, to a story. I’m a stickler for proper grammar and spelling. I’ve even been known to correct people while they’re talking. Even improper grammar and spelling in a text message gives me a twitch. When people I know want to know how to spell something, or want something proofread, I’m usually the one that they ask.
Reason #3 –
This is where I can help you. I respect writers. I’m actually a writer myself, but I don’t have the patience to write a novel; major props to those of you that do. You guys are awesome. Seriously. I want to help you realize your dream to get your book out there to the masses, whether you are going to self-publish or go for the whole hog and try to get a publisher to pick up your novel.
What are you waiting for?
Get on your computer and write something so I can edit it!
